Canto 3 • Chapter 33

Activities of Kapila

Maitreya concluded with the aftermath of Kapila’s teachings. Devahuti, empowered by the Lord’s instructions, attained steady devotion and liberation from material conditioning. Her heart became a shrine of remembrance, and she experienced the bliss Kapila described. The Lord, having fulfilled His mission, prepared to depart, but His words remained to guide all seekers.

Maitreya told Vidura that Kapila traveled, enlightening others with the same message of devotion and analytical clarity. His activities exemplified the harmony of philosophy and practice—He taught, inspired, and liberated those who took shelter of His feet.

Vidura expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging that hearing these pastimes and teachings purifies the heart. Maitreya affirmed that anyone who faithfully hears and recites Kapila’s instructions transcends fear of birth and death and attains loving service to the Lord.

The canto closes by reiterating the power of hearing from devotees. Through attentive listening, even complex cosmology and psychology resolve into a single imperative: take shelter of the Lord through devotion. With Kapila’s life and teachings complete, Vidura felt spiritually fortified to continue his pilgrimage, and readers are left with the assurance that the path to liberation is open to all who hear and serve with sincerity.
