After many centuries of wandering and teaching, Lord Rsabhadeva eventually completed the mission for which He had appeared in the material world. Through His example and teachings, He had demonstrated all possible paths toward spiritual realization and had made available the supreme knowledge needed by all beings to achieve liberation and eternal relationship with the Supreme Lord. Having established His teachings firmly in the world, Rsabhadeva consciously prepared for His final departure from material existence.

In His final days of apparent material life, Rsabhadeva entered the sacred Narmada River and withdrew His consciousness from His material body. Those with spiritual perception understood that He was not dying in the conventional sense, but was consciously transferring His awareness from the material realm to the eternal spiritual realm where He would continue His divine activities in their most complete and perfect expression. The river itself seemed to celebrate His departure, and celestial flowers fell from the heavens as the demigods and sages offered their respects to the Supreme Lord in His departing form.

Though Rsabhadeva's material presence departed from the world, His teachings remained eternally present in the scriptures and in the consciousness of all sincere seekers who took His words to heart. His life became a model for spiritual practitioners at all levels—from householders seeking to balance material responsibilities with spiritual practice, to renunciates seeking to achieve the highest levels of transcendental realization. His teachings about dharma, his demonstrations of transcendental consciousness, and his revelation of the ultimate path of pure devotion became the foundation upon which all subsequent spiritual advancement would be built.

Maitreya explained to Vidura that the Fifth Canto, through its descriptions of the cosmic structure and through the life and teachings of Lord Rsabhadeva, has provided both external knowledge about the material universe and internal knowledge about how consciousness itself can be transformed and elevated. The cosmic geography described in earlier chapters of the Canto is revealed to be not merely physical territory, but a reflection of the spiritual topography that exists within the consciousness of each being. The various continents, rivers, and mountains represent different stages of consciousness development and different paths that sincere seekers can follow toward the Supreme.

The Fifth Canto demonstrates that the material universe, despite its seeming solidity and permanence, is ultimately a teaching mechanism designed by the Supreme Lord to facilitate the spiritual awakening of all beings. Every aspect of creation—from the largest cosmic structures to the smallest particles of matter—serves the ultimate purpose of guiding consciousness toward recognition of the Supreme Lord and toward the achievement of eternal relationship with Him. Those who understand this truth develop profound gratitude toward the Supreme Lord and recognize that even the most challenging circumstances of material existence are opportunities for spiritual advancement.

As Maitreya concluded the Fifth Canto and reflected on the comprehensive knowledge that had been transmitted through these teachings, he blessed Vidura with continued spiritual advancement. He explained that through study of the Fifth Canto, sincere seekers would develop understanding of both the external cosmic structure and the internal spiritual principles governing consciousness development. He assured Vidura that anyone who approached these teachings with sincere faith would find their consciousness naturally elevated and would experience themselves being drawn progressively toward the Supreme Lord.

The Fifth Canto thus completes a comprehensive cycle of spiritual teaching that began in the First Canto and has progressively expanded through the subsequent cantos. The first cantos established the foundation of spiritual knowledge, the second through fourth cantos revealed the path of righteous conduct and devotional service through the examples of great kings and spiritual practitioners, and the Fifth Canto has now revealed both the cosmic structure within which consciousness evolves and the ultimate path of pure devotion as demonstrated by Lord Rsabhadeva. With the completion of five cantos, Maitreya has provided enough instruction to guide sincere seekers toward the supreme goal. The remaining cantos will continue to deepen and elaborate these teachings, always pointing back to the central truth that the Supreme Lord is the ultimate reality and the ultimate goal, and that sincere devotion to Him is the direct path to eternal fulfillment and happiness.
